Black History Month Highlight: Hasim Swinton

Black History Month Highlight: Hasim Swinton

In the fast-paced world of financial services, individuals like Hasim Swinton stand out as beacons of success, wisdom, and leadership. As the Account Manager for large groups at NFP, Swinton’s journey from humble beginnings to overseeing major accounts is a testament to his dedication, expertise, and passion for his craft.

NFP is a leading property and casualty broker, benefits consultant, wealth manager, and retirement plan advisor. Within this expansive landscape, Swinton strategically aligns himself with NFP’s mission—to empower organizations and individuals with tailored solutions for complex challenges and uncertainties.

Where he started– An internship at a boutique insurance brokerage based in Washington, DC. Early on in his internship, a partner left the company, and Swinton stepped up to fill in the roles needed to keep the business running.

Where he ended– The boutique insurance brokerage earned the accolade of Small Brokerage of the Year for Kaiser Permanente.

On entering financial services– Swinton’s career trajectory began as an account coordinator for small groups at Hudson Benefits Consulting, where he honed his skills over five years. Swinton wore multiple hats, selling to small groups, managing existing businesses, and serving as an account manager. This experience laid the foundation for his subsequent leap into the middle market segment with NFP in November 2022.

On adapting to roles– Because of Swinton’s ability to adapt, he has been consistently trusted with greater responsibility than is required for the position he holds. This mindset allows him to grow within an organization, he says.

The best advice he’s received– Success is the result of preparation meeting opportunity. Ask yourself, “Are you prepared to take advantage of the opportunities that come your way?”

Advice he would give– Cultivate discipline by forming good habits and being organized! Discipline will win out in the long run and serve you well in high-pressure situations.

On what he’s proudest of– “Helping my team learn new information, skills, or ideas. I understand how impactful a team can be and the importance of coming together to problem solve for each other or our clients.” Swinton uses assertive communication to achieve compromises, mediate conflicts, and find positive solutions
